Biography
Dr. Isotilia Costa Melo holds a PhD in Operations and Process Management (2021) and an MBA in Digital Business with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (2023), both obtained from the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil. As part of her doctoral training, she completed a research stay as a visiting scholar at the University of Sherbrooke (Québec, Canada) and participated in an international academic program (DAAD Winter Course) in Aachen and Berlin, Germany.
Her doctoral dissertation focuses on the performance measurement of digital supply chains through the development of dynamic Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) models. This work is grounded in a methodological perspective aimed at strengthening quantitative tools for evaluating complex and technology-intensive organizational systems.
Prior to joining ICN Business School, Dr. Costa Melo served as Assistant Professor at Universidad Católica del Norte (Chile) and, previously, as Postdoctoral Researcher at Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez (Chile). She has also supervised MBA theses and capstone projects at the University of São Paulo (Brazil) and the Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP, Portugal), totaling more than 60 executive projects supervised, the majority of which focused on applications of artificial intelligence in organizational contexts. She is currently co-advising two PhD candidates from Sichuan Agricultural University, China.
Her research has resulted in more than 40 publications in peer-reviewed journals. She has published in internationally recognized journals ranked in the ABS category, such as Omega and Environmental Science & Policy. She currently serves as Associate Editor of Business and Society Review (Wiley).
From a scientific perspective, her research is structured around two complementary axes.
The first concerns the development and application of advanced quantitative methods, both parametric and nonparametric, dedicated to performance measurement, particularly Data Envelopment Analysis and related efficiency models.
The second focuses on the integration of mixed-methods research designs, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches, with increasing attention to the contributions of artificial intelligence to management research.
Her fields of application primarily include logistics and supply chain management, digital transformation, and sustainability challenges. Her work also extends to renewable energy, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), financial markets, and corporate greenwashing practices, reflecting a coherent, interdisciplinary research agenda oriented toward scientific and societal impact.
