Vision and Purpose

The IESIPP Chair is an interdisciplinary research chair positioned at the intersection of innovation, entrepreneurship, and public policy. Grounded in academic research and oriented toward action, it is based on a simple observation: today’s major social challenges require more coordinated, inclusive, and long-term responses.

The Chair investigates the mechanisms that foster inclusion, strengthen entrepreneurial ecosystems, and support the emergence of innovations with significant societal impact. Particular attention is devoted to populations facing situations of vulnerability, stakeholder coordination dynamics, and the conditions that enable sustainable change.

Its work is based on a multi-level approach linking individual trajectories, organizational practices, and ecosystem structures in order to better understand the interactions among individuals, organizations, institutions, and territories. Guided by a commitment to scientific excellence, the Chair produces rigorous, actionable, and socially engaged knowledge designed to inform policymakers, entrepreneurs, nonprofit organizations, and territorial actors in the pursuit of more inclusive and equitable societies.

Mission

The mission of the IESIPP Chair is to understand, support, and disseminate the conditions under which innovation and entrepreneurship contribute to sustainable and inclusive social change. Through its research activities, the Chair seeks to produce rigorous and actionable knowledge, contribute to international academic debates, and generate insights that are valuable for organizations, practitioners, and policymakers. It also aims to support the development of evidence-based public policies and decision-making processes while creating bridges between research, field-based practices, and societal impact.

To achieve these objectives, the Chair combines high-impact research with innovative dissemination formats, including documentary filmmaking, dialogue with policymakers, and engagement with field practitioners, in order to foster the circulation and mobilization of knowledge for organizations, territories, and public action.

Four Research Axes

Research Axis 1 — Disability and Inclusion

This research axis explores the conditions that foster the social and professional inclusion of persons with disabilities, with particular attention to the role of innovation and entrepreneurship as drivers of empowerment, employment access, and economic participation. The research examines interactions among individuals, support organizations, and public support systems while investigating the capacity of entrepreneurial ecosystems to become more inclusive, accessible, and responsive to diverse needs and life trajectories.

Through this work, the Chair seeks to identify structural barriers to inclusion as well as initiatives capable of transforming organizational practices, support mechanisms, and public policies in ways that promote the full participation of persons with disabilities.

Research Axis 2 — Entrepreneurship and Vulnerabilities

This research axis focuses on the social, institutional, economic, and territorial barriers that limit access to entrepreneurship for certain populations. The research analyzes inequalities within entrepreneurial ecosystems as well as the mechanisms that may weaken specific entrepreneurial profiles. It also examines the strategies of resilience, adaptation, and innovation developed in response to administrative, economic, and social constraints, while exploring the role of public policies in supporting individuals facing situations of vulnerability.

Through this work, the Chair aims to better understand the conditions required to make entrepreneurship more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable by identifying the levers that can strengthen equality of entrepreneurial opportunity.

Research Axis 3 — Social Prevention

This research axis examines the mechanisms that make it possible to anticipate situations of vulnerability and exclusion in order to address social difficulties before they escalate. The research focuses on innovation in preventive public policies, forms of institutional coordination, and the territorial dynamics of social intervention. It seeks to better understand how public authorities, nonprofit organizations, and territorial actors can collaborate to prevent social risks before they become more severe.

Through this work, the Chair aims to identify the conditions that foster earlier, more coordinated, and more effective public action capable of strengthening the resilience of individuals, organizations, and territories in the face of contemporary social challenges.

Research Axis 4 — Documentary and Inclusive Innovation

This research axis explores the potential of documentary filmmaking as a tool for research, knowledge production and dissemination, and social transformation. The research investigates how visual narratives make it possible to capture lived experiences and entrepreneurial trajectories while shedding light on processes of inclusion and exclusion that are often difficult to grasp through traditional approaches. It also analyzes the narrative and emotional mechanisms that shape perceptions, foster collective learning, and stimulate stakeholder engagement.

Through this work, the Chair examines documentary filmmaking as a lever for inclusive innovation capable of influencing representations, strengthening dialogue among stakeholders, and contributing to the evolution of organizational practices and public policies.

Beyond These Four Research Axes

The Chair remains open to broader projects in social innovation and social entrepreneurship whenever they contribute to understanding and addressing major societal challenges.
