Study M&A and private equity in Paris or Berlin

Mergers and acquisitions and private equity bring together financial analysis, commercial judgement and the ability to carry a transaction through to completion. Every deal raises the same questions: is the target the right one, what is it really worth, how should the purchase be financed, and what could prevent it from delivering the expected results? Advisory firms, investment banks and investment funds look for analysts who can answer them with rigour.

The M&A and Private Equity track of ICN Business School’s MSc Finance is a one- or two-year Master’s programme taught entirely in English, in Paris or Berlin. It is designed for international students who want to work on transactions: advising companies that buy or sell a business, or investing in companies through private equity funds.

The programme follows the main stages of a deal, from identifying potential targets and assessing strategic fit to valuing a business, structuring its financing and negotiating the final terms. You examine the financial statements and operational assumptions that underpin a transaction, as well as the risks that can emerge during due diligence. You also explore how private equity investors assess opportunities, structure leveraged buyouts and seek to create value over the investment period. The track is particularly relevant if you are interested in advisory, investment banking, private equity or corporate development roles.

You study in Paris, close to the banks and advisory firms of La Défense, or in Berlin, one of Europe’s most dynamic start-up and investment scenes. The first intake opens in September 2027. The programme is built on ATMx, ICN’s philosophy: solid foundations in management, then crossing them with other disciplines (art, technology, the sciences) and other professions.

Accreditation and recognition

You graduate with two degrees: the Master of Science, accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Écoles (CGE), the association of France’s leading higher education institutions, and a degree conferring the Master’s Degree grade, approved by the French Ministry of Higher Education (diplôme visé) and registered with the RNCP at level 7 (no. 42682), the level of a Master’s degree in the European Qualifications Framework. ICN Business School holds the AACSB, EQUIS and AMBA accreditations: this “triple crown” is held by around 1% of business schools worldwide. ICN also holds the Bienvenue en France label, awarded by Campus France for the quality of its welcome for international students.

Why international students choose MSc Finance – M&A and Private Equity

Built around the deal. The specialisation semester follows a transaction from strategy and deal sourcing to due diligence, LBO structuring, negotiation and closing.

Professional references. The track draws on the ACCA and ACT professional frameworks, and the common finance foundation is designed with reference to the CFA Program curriculum. This does not imply the automatic award of an external certification.

Tools recruiters expect. You earn TOSA certifications in Advanced Excel, Power BI and Python, and complete Bloomberg Market Concepts (BMC), the e-learning course on Bloomberg’s market tools, within the financial markets module.

Living and studying in Paris or Berlin

Paris is France’s largest job market and a city where cultural life never stops. The La Défense campus, 8,000 m² with collaborative spaces and a rooftop terrace, welcomes students from all over the world.

Berlin is the largest capital city in the European Union and the second most popular city among Erasmus students. It is highly multicultural and multilingual, with a strong start-up culture, and you do not need to speak German. The Moabit campus, surrounded by greenery along the River Spree, is a calm place to study.

On both campuses, ICN’s Student Success team supports you throughout your studies, on academic matters as well as practical life.

An international outlook

In semester 2 (Year 1) or semester 3 (Year 2), you can study at one of ICN’s partner universities, for example Aarhus University (Denmark), University College Dublin (Ireland), LUISS (Rome), Kozminski University (Warsaw), Université Laval (Quebec), Tecnológico de Monterrey (Mexico) or Hong Kong Baptist University. Internationally focused activities also lead to the Global Competency Certificate, which recognises your intercultural skills.
