The Business Games in Paris and Nancy

230 students in the 3rd year of the Bachelor programme took part in the Business Game offered by the Intercultural Communication Hub on our Nancy and Paris campuses.

It is the opportunity for them to strengthened their English language skills in the context of a business simulation. In teamwork, they took strategic decisions such as purchasing machinery and raw materials, recruiting staff, setting product prices and negotiating with competing companies. In addition, each team was challenged to produce communication plans in English for different audiences and purposes.

`A team of facilitators from Optigest, the French leader in business games, co-hosted these three days with a team of seven ICN language teachers who were there to help them with the challenges and the use of the tool.

The PGE students also took part in a transdisciplinary module in English, «English for StratSim». This compulsory module supports the «StratSim» simulation which takes place within the framework of the «Marketing/Strategic Planning» core module. This module allows students to work on their language skills in a simulation where they apply the concepts studied in product and service marketing, B2C and B2B marketing and international marketing. The English classes target three key skills that allow them to be operational in the context of the game proposed by Dap Marketing and in the a professional context: writing effectively for business purposes, using marketing vocabulary and presentation in business contexts.

These two modules for the Bachelor and Master in Management programmes were initiated by the Intercultural Communication Hub as part of the strategic plan with the idea of making students more professional, getting them to practise English in professional situations to reach a fluent level and aligning with the school’s transdisciplinary approach.Â
